The simplest garments are often the hardest to perfect.
The Portofino Core Tee is the result of an uncompromising development process, where every decision—from fabric selection and garment dyeing to construction and finishing—has been questioned, refined and revisited. What appears effortless is, in reality, the product of countless iterations and an unwavering commitment to quality.
Inspired by the material-first philosophy of Massimo Osti, every detail exists for a reason. This is more than a T-shirt; it's a study in fabric, construction and considered design. The work is there for those who choose to look a little closer.
290 GSM Organic Cotton Jersey
Constructed from a substantial 290 GSM coarse organic cotton jersey, the Core T-Shirt has been garment dyed without the addition of fabric softeners, allowing the natural characteristics of the cotton to remain intact. The result is a dense, structured handle that develops character through wear while maintaining the architectural drape intended within the silhouette. Rather than disguising the fabric's natural texture, the process celebrates it, creating a garment designed to age honestly over time.
Twisted 1x1 Rib Collar
Departing from the conventional straight-knit collar, the Core T-Shirt features a custom-developed twisted 1x1 rib. The subtle spiral effect references the irregular collars found on vintage tubular knit T-shirts produced throughout the 1950s and 1960s, where shrinkage and tension naturally distorted the rib over years of wear. Recreating this characteristic intentionally introduces a sense of permanence and lived-in authenticity from the first wear.
Tonal Contrast Construction Stitching
Running around the neckline and extending through the shoulder seam is a subtle tonal contrast stitch, inspired by exposed chain stitching and repair work commonly found on military issue garments, maritime uniforms and industrial workwear. Rather than concealing construction, the stitch line celebrates it, highlighting the garment's assembly in the same way traditional utility garments proudly revealed their craftsmanship.
Stacked Sleeve Branding
The signature stacked Left Hand logo is screen printed onto the sleeve using a double-layer print process to introduce subtle relief and depth. Applied consistently throughout the collection, the branding establishes a recognisable identity without dominating the garment, reinforcing Left Hand's philosophy that branding should become part of the construction rather than simply decoration.
Internal Story Label
Positioned internally on the lower left-hand side, the woven story label serves as a permanent reminder of the principles on which Left Hand was founded. Paying homage to Massimo Osti's relentless pursuit of experimentation and innovation, it represents the continuation of a design philosophy centred around material development, functional thinking and considered product evolution.
